Letters and a poem by and about the Earl of Essex. The contents include: 1) A copie of the Earle Marshall [the Earl of Essex] his lre to the Queenes Ma[jes]tie; 2) Considerations couchinge the peace now in speeche; 3) a poem, There was a tyme when seellye bees coulde speake; 4) The L. Keep [Sir Thomas Egerton] to the Earle Marshall; 5) The Earle Marshall his answere to the Lorde Keeper; and 6) To Mr. Anthonie Bacon. An appollogie of the Earle of Essex againste those wch falselie & malitiously take him to be the onlie hindrance of the peace & quiett of his countrye. On the fly-leaves in the front and back a different contemporary hand has written some poetry and several Latin epigrams and translations.

Frederick of Mömpelgard (d. 1608) became the Duke of Württemberg in 1593. Robert, Earl of Essex (1586-1601) was a favorite of Elizabeth I, Queen of England, and occupied a variety of military posts.
